Our Review of the Elvie Electric Breast Pump

Every day a new baby learns to breastfeed, but every day a new baby struggles with this.  World Breastfeeding Week (1st-7th August) is a time to celebrate everything related to breastfeeding whether you have been successful or have endured a more difficult journey.

Many women will use breast pumps to help them with their feeding or when they decide to move their baby from breast to bottle.  There are lots of pumps available but the Elvie breast pump has been a social media sensation since it hit the market in October 2018. But with a price tag of £249 is it worth really worth the hype and the money?

We asked Bunty Rowbotham, a busy mum of two and Mummy Tribe regular, who has created her own breastfeeding blog and clothing brand for feeding mothers, to review the Elvie Electric Breast Pump.

Q: How easy is the pump to use

Being a mum of two, life is always busy. Juggling everything can seem so hectic at times. So anything to make life easier is always welcome. The pump had simple instructions, was easy to set up and easy to use.

Q: How easy is the pump to clean?

Cleaning the silent Elvie breast pump was really simple and I got to grips with the new product very quickly. Comparing it to previous pumps it is the easiest. All you have to do is place a few components that need cleaning into the dishwasher and sterilizer.

Q: How loud is the pump when you are using it?

It is so quiet and discreet so did not disturb either of my children during nap times.

Q: What is the battery life like?

It took two hours to fully charge which will be enough for a whole session of expressing and more.

Q: How efficient is it?

The efficiency of the pump is exactly what I was looking for. Particularly now my 10 month old sleeps through the night and I wake up with very full breasts and need to express quickly!

Q: Are you comfortable using it in public?

You can disguise the pump so easily anywhere you go, so it is perfect for travelling or if you do not want anyone to know you are pumping.

Q: Will you continue to use the Elvie Pump?

I am really happy with the outcome of the pump because my daughter has since been getting used to the bottle and it enabled me to have a bit of time on my own and get better so yes I will definitely carry on using it.

Q: Will you recommend it to your mummy friends?

I would really recommend it to any mothers who want to pump. In my experience other pumps have been hard to use, being confined to one space with wires and plugs surrounding you. The pump is gentle on the skin and does not cause any pain like many do. It is worth every penny and I wish I had one with my first baby!

“Trying out the hands-free breast pump so far has been such a success working around my busy day. It has given me freedom and flexibility to allow me to get on with my jobs and involve my partner to feed my youngest.

It has been great getting him involved, letting him bond in the same way I do with my little one. I also have been ill recently and I needed time to rest and recover, so it arrived at a perfect time. It allowed my family members to get involved to feed my hungry 10 month old. I would definitely give the Elvie Electric Breast Pump 5* out of 5!
